If you are planning (progettando) to study in the UK, you will have to consider what course you will study, how you will pay for your fees (tasse universitarie) and expenses (spese) and where you will live.
The British Council can provide (fornire) information about the courses you can attend (frequentare) in the UK.
If you cannot afford (permetterti) the full cost of your studies, you may apply for (fare domanda per) a grant (borsa di studio). However, competition for grants is high, so be careful not to miss (mancare) application deadlines (scadenza).
Having suitable accommodation (sistemazione adatta) is very important to help you settle (ambientarsi) into the UK. Some institutions provide accommodation for students in halls of residence (casa dello studente).
The cost of accommodation and other expenses (food, books, transport) will vary depending on (in base a) where you live. It is estimated that a degree student (studente universitario) needs around £770 per month to live in the UK.

Questa lezione ti aiuterà a comprendere alcuni particolari sulla pronuncia della lingua inglese
All languages exist as speech long before any written form appears.
People like the written word or rather spelling to match the way we pronounce words. Unfortunately the English language has a mismatch between the spelling of words and their pronunciation. This is partly because English uses the Roman alphabet, that was originally devised for Latin, an older language with patterns of sounds and grammatical structures that differ from English.
There are over 40 sounds in English but only 26 letters to represent them. Some letters represent one sound, for example, f, l, m, and z. But most letters can represent more than 1 sound. For example the consonant c is pronounced differently in the 3 words cake, city, and church. The vowel e is different in the words den, pretty and patient, and sometimes it is not pronounced at all, especially at the end of words, for example come and dance.
Hence it is important if you are studying English, to write down new words in an address book, along side the spelling of a word, and from a dictionary to write down its phonetic symbols. This way you learn the phonetic alphabet, and improve your English pronunciation.

Che differenza c’è tra college e university? Scoprilo leggendo la lezione di oggi.
In Britain, the word college is used to refer to a number of educational institutions: public schools for children (e.g. Eton), sixth form schools which are attended by students aged between 16 and 18, and universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, which consist of a federation of colleges.
In the United States, the word college is used to refer to smaller institutions which only grant bachelor’s or associate’s degrees (diplomi universitari, lauree di primo livello).
Institutions of higher education which consist of different faculties and offer several higher degree courses are called universities.
However, in everyday language, Americans say “go to college” or “go to school” even if they are referring to university.
This is why confusion may arise between British and American English.

Pronuncia - Fonologia
Leggi per avere alcune utili informazioni sui suoni vocalici inglesi.
Vowels in the alphabet are the following characters “a”, “e” ,”I”, “o”, “u”.
However in the English phonetic language, there are 25 vowel sounds (phonemes), as shown below.
This can be a problem, as many language students have less vowel sounds in their own language, so their ears are not trained to perceive the difference between “ship” and “sheep” for example.
There are 12 monophthongs (OR a single vowel sound)
There are 8 dipthongs (OR a single vowel sound also, but, the tongue moves to produce a transition from 1 vowel to another)
And there are 5 tripthongs (OR also a single vowel sound, but the tongue moves twice, to produce a transition from one vowel to another, and then to a third)
Below is the “vowel phonetic alphabet” with examples, and in the following podcast, you will hear the correct pronunciation of them.
