L’oceano di Internet pullula di “sirene”! In questa lezione troverai alcune delle frasi più comunemente usate per ingannare i navigatori imprudenti.
Beware of phishers! They are people who want to obtain private information from you.
Here are some of the sentences you may find in emails sent by such fraudsters.
First, the phisher gives some plausible excuse to persuade you to reveal private information:
- We are undertaking a review of our member accounts.
- We would like to ensure that your account was not accessed by an unauthorized third party.
- Unfortunately, trouble with our computer system caused us to lose some member data.
- Recently, we identified some unusual activity in your account.
The phisher then asks you to click on a link and give private information (passwords, credit card number, bank account number, etc):
- You are requested to visit our site by following the link below and fill in the required information:
www.website.com/fillinform/89b76 - Please update your record:
www.website.com/update/52a17
The phisher may also put you under pressure to convince you to provide your data immediately:
- Failure to restore your records will result in account suspension.
- Your account access will remain limited until this problem has been resolved.

In questa lezione troverai alcuni consigli utili per difenderti dalla posta elettronica indesiderata.
Anti-spam tips
“Spam” is the name given to the practice of sending unwanted messages (messaggi indesiderati) to people’s email addresses, usually as advertising (pubblicità). This gives fraudsters (truffatori) a way of reaching (raggiungere) Internet users based anywhere in the world. Spammers collect (raccolgono) addresses from a number of sources (fonti) including web sites or newsgroups.
Here are a few tips to help you reduce the amount (quantità) of spam that you receive:
- Only share (condividi) your e-mail address with people you know.
- Disguise (camuffa, altera) your e-mail address on newsgroup posts or chat rooms, for example by inserting zeros instead of (al posto di) "o" (your.name@provider.com). This will prevent (impedirà) the automated programs that spammers use from reading your address;
- Do not allow (non permettere) your address to be sold to third parties (venduto a terzi) when registering or buying products;
- Do not reply (non rispondere) to spam emails or attempt (tentare) to use the "remove me" link: this will confirm that your
- address is live (attivo) and you will receive more spam!
- Do not open spam messages;
- Use an email programme that includes spam filters.

Questa lezione ti spiegherà l’origine di una parola molto usata nell’era di Internet.
SPAM Unwanted e-mail messages are called spam, but where does the term actually come from? Webopedia.com gives two different explanations.
The word may come from a song by the Monty Python, a famous group of British comedians: “Spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam, lovely spam, wonderful spam…”. The song is a repetition of words with no value, just like junk mail.
Others think that junk mail has been called “spam” by a computer group lab at the University of Southern California. They maintain that unwanted mail has the same characteristics as SPAM™, a tinned meat product: nobody wants it, no one eats it, and only few people like it!
