GET assume diversi significati a seconda del contesto:

Diventare (Seguito da un aggettivo) People may get irritable when it is very hot.

Osserva anche le espressioni get better/worse (migliorare/peggiorare) The weather will get better next week.

Andare a prendere (get + oggetto) It’s raining. I’ll get you an umbrella. Sta piovendo. Vado a prenderti un ombrello.

Preparare/prepararsi (get ready) It’s 8 o’clock, I should get the dinner ready. Sono le 8, dovrei preparare la cena.

Ricevere (regali, posta) Yesterday I got an email from a friend who lives in Sweden. It’s freezing over there!

She went out in the rain and got a cold.

It’s going to rain. Shall we get a taxi to go home? Sta per piovere. Prendiamo un tassì per andare a casa?

Capire/Afferrare (un nome, una battuta) Sorry, I didn’t get your name. Can you say it again? Scusa, non ho capito il tuo nome. Puoi ripeterlo?

Spesso get + participio passato traduce la forma riflessiva: It’s pouring! You’ll get soaked if you go out! Sta diluviando! Vi inzupperete se uscite!

They are getting married next spring. Si sposeranno la prossima primavera.

Nell’inglese informale, get può sostituire ‘be’ nella forma passiva “The Perfect Storm” is a film about a group of fishermen who get caught in a terrible storm. “La Tempesta Perfetta” è un film su un gruppo di pescatori che vengono sorpresi da una tremenda tempesta.

Se seguito da preposizione, get assume vari significati: get up (alzarsi); get on with (andare d’accordo con), get back (ritornare)…

Weather (the atmospherical conditions at a particular time and place).

If it is rainy, drops of water fall from the sky.

If it is snowy, white flakes of frozen water fall from the sky.

If it is cloudy or overcast, the sky is covered by masses of evaporated water.

If it is foggy, you can’t see things very well because of a thick dark layer of water vapours.

If it is windy, there are strong air currents.

If it is sunny, the sun shines.

Can the weather (tempo atmosferico) affect (influenzare) our mood (umore)?
This controversial question has been discussed by scientists and sociologists for a long time. When it is extremely hot (caldo), people may feel irritated or moody (di malumore) for no apparent reason; on a cold, rainy (piovoso) day you may feel melancholy or even depressed. There are studies that link (collegano) high (alte) temperatures to increase (aumento) in crime (criminalità).
It is believed that people get (diventano) irritable when it is very hot.
The fact that the weather may have an influence on our mood is documented by a disorder (disturbo) called ‘Seasonal (stagionale) Affective Disorder’, (S.A.D.) which affects (colpisce) some people during winter (inverno).
The lack (mancanza) of sunlight (luce solare) may alter certain hormonal levels in the body. The symptoms of SAD are sadness (tristezza), fatigue (affaticamento), loss (perdita) of appetite, apathy, irritability.
