Meteo - Lessico

pubblicato da pmanuella in:

Nella lezione di oggi troverai alcune espressioni idiomatiche che utilizzano il lessico relativo al tempo.

If you are on cloud nine, you are very excited about something good which has happened to you. John has asked Fiona to marry him and she’s on cloud nine.

Every cloud has a silver lining is a proverb meaning that even an unpleasant situation can have some positive aspects. Every cloud has a silver lining. If I hadn’t missed my train, I wouldn’t have met the girl of my dreams.

If you say that someone is a ray of sunshine, you mean that they have a positive attitude to life. Sharon is a ray of sunshine! She manages to cheer me up even when I’m depressed.

You can also use this expression ironically to refer to someone who is not very friendly or nice. “Who’s that ray of sunshine at the help desk?”

If you get wind of something, you get to know about a piece of information which has to be kept secret. As soon as he got wind of the company’s plans for staff cuts, he accepted the offer from Jays & Co.

Meteo - Frasario

pubblicato da pmanuella in:

Com’è noto, le condizioni atmosferiche sono uno degli argomenti di conversazione preferiti dagli inglesi! La lezione di oggi ti aiuterà a fare due chiacchiere sul tempo.

What’s the weather like today?
It’s warm and sunny.

What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow?
It’s going to be cold and windy.

What a lovely day!

What awful weather today!

What’s the weather like in Scotland in the summer?

Is it often foggy in London?
