Pronuncia - Grammatica
In questa breve lezione troverai alcuni spunti e suggerimenti su come districarti nel mondo dei suoni inglesi.
In the English alphabet, there are 26 characters ( i.e. a, b,c, d, e, f, g etc.)
In the English phonetic alphabet there are 49 sounds (24 consonant sounds and 25 vowel sounds).
In this lesson, we will look at the “Phonetic Symbols” of the consonant sounds. You can usually find a phonetic symbol alphabet, at the back of any English grammar book and dictionary.
Its intention is to assist you in the pronunciation of English words, as many words are pronounced differently to how they are spelt.
So a good technique, when you learn a new word, is to use an address book, write the word, and note down its phonetic spelling from a dictionary, so that you can slowly learn the symbols as you progress with your English.
Please note that the pronunciation given is called “RP”, which means “Received Pronunciation”, (very similar to how the queen of England speaks.) And like all countries, you will hear some very different regional pronunciations, e.g. Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow, Yorkshire etc.
Below is the “consonant phonetic alphabet” with examples, and in the following podcast, you will hear the correct pronunciation of them.
