Ufficio postale - Grammatica

Mary: “Two days ago I received a love letter from a secret admirer” Jane: “Did you? How romantic!”

Jane: “Mary said that she has received a love letter from a secret admirer” Paul: “I know. I sent it! I’m in love with her!”

Jane: "Paul is your secret admirer!" Mary: "Who told you that?" Jane: "It was him! He said: 'I sent the letter! I’m in love with her!'".

Mary said that she has received a love letter from a secret admirer.
Paul said: “I sent it! I’m in love with her!”.

Nel discorso indiretto, la congiunzione that può essere omessa: Mary said she has received a love letter.

    SAY va seguito da:

    • TO + pronome soggetto (He said to me that he sent the letter)
    • Dalle parole riferite tra virgolette (He said: “I sent it! I’m in love with her!”)
    • That + soggetto (Mary said that she has received a love letter)
Paul told me that he is your secret admirer.
Paul told Jane that he loves Mary.

Ufficio postale - Lettura

Image from news.bbc.co.ukAn old soldier (soldato) has received a heartbreaking (struggente) letter which could have changed his life.
Ken McKernan, 79, from Liverpool, should have received his mother’s letter while he was serving with the Royal Fusilliers (fucilieri) in World War II (seconda guerra mondiale). Mr McKernan’s mother emigrated to the USA when he was a boy.
He was brought up (allevato) by relatives (parenti) and he thought (pensava) that his mother had forgotten (si fosse dimenticata) about him.
The letters, written in 1944, were found (trovate) in a cigar box in a Dutch (olandese) museum.
McKernan fought (ha combattuto) in Holland during the war, but he said that he had no idea how the letters ended up (siano finite) in the museum. They were returned to him after an international search to track down (rintracciare) the author via relatives in the USA.
“I am so happy the letters have finally reached (raggiunto) me, even if it is 60 years too late (tardi)”, said McKernan.
“If only I had known (saputo) I would have gone to join her (raggiungerla).
My life could have been a totally different story.”
