Ecco alcune frasi utili per parlare dei programmi televisivi

If you want to know about someone’s TV habits: What programmes do you like watching on TV?

If you want to speak about the programmes that you like or don’t like I usually watch the news in the evenings.
I never watch reality shows. I don’t like them at all!
I’m hooked on “Ally McBeal”! (I really like it!)

If you want to know what programmes are on TV “What’s on tonight?” “ ‘Friends’ is on at 9pm”
“What channel is it on?” “It’s on Channel Four.”

If you want to make a suggestion: “Let’s watch ‘Big Brother’!” “No, it’s boring! How about a film?”

Questa lezione di darà alcune notizie sul fenomeno televisivo del secolo.

What is reality TV?

Reality TV is a new genre of programs (British English: programmes) in which ordinary people (gente comune) are put in unusual (insolite) situations, from which a winner will emerge.
“Big Brother”, which confines a group of people in a small house with cameras running (attive) 24 hours a day, first screened (è andato in onda) in Holland. Since then, reality TV has become (è diventata) a major (importante) phenomenon with most networks screening some type of reality program. So what's the attraction? For the networks, reality TV shows are a cheap alternative to other programming. No scriptwriters (sceneggiatori), paid actors or complex sets are required. Viewers (spettatori) enjoy watching the relationships of the contestants (contendenti) from a safe distance and they can affect (influenzare) the result with a phone call.
Critics argue (sostengono) that "reality" shows have little in common with reality, because they feature (presentano) a selected group of people, confined in an artificial environment (ambiente). Supporters (sostenitori) instead argue that the audience can identify with the contestants, who belong to (appartengono) different social and age groups.

Questa lezione ti spiegherà quali preposizioni utilizzare per parlare di vari momenti nel tempo

Quando si usano le preposizioni AT, IN and ON per parlare di momenti nel tempo?
Susan is going home at Easter. She’s leaving on Friday. Her train leaves at 6 in the afternoon.

Usiamo AT per riferirci a precisi momenti nel tempo:
- festività (at Christmas, at Easter),
- orari (at 6 o’clock),
- in espressioni come at the weekend o at the moment

Usiamo IN per riferirci a lunghi periodi di tempo:
- mesi, anni, stagioni (in October, in 1998, in winter)
- momenti della giornata (in the afternoon, in the morning)
ma usiamo IN anche per parlare del futuro (she is leaving in two weeks)
Usiamo ON - Con le date (on the 4th of July)
- Con i giorni della settimana (on Tuesday, on Monday morning)
- Con giorni particolari (on New Year’s Day)
