Fitness - Vocabolario - Trascrizione
Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some interesting survival English about health and fitness.
Before starting, let me first explain that you’ll be listening to some useful English vocabulary for the gym. You’ll then hear a short explanation of these words, followed by an example of how they are used.
So let’s start!
Woman: The gym.
Man: This is a large room or a building with equipment for doing physical exercise. Its formal name is gymnasium. Listen to this example:
Woman: What do you do in your free time?
Man: I go to the gym?
Woman: Which gym do you go to?
Man: I go to Lulu’s gym in the centre.
Man: Health and fitness.
Woman: These two words are often used together today in gyms, and adverts for diet food and vitamin supplements. They both refer to being in a good physical and mental condition. Now listen:
Woman: I need to improve my level of fitness.
Man: Well to be fit and healthy, you need to start slowly with a 20 minute walk 3 times a week.
Man: Exercise.
Woman: Exercise can be a verb or a noun. They both refer to doing physical activity. Listen to this:
Woman: How often do you exercise?
Man: I try to exercise every other day, but if I can’t come to the gym, I do some exercises at home.
Man: Work out.
Woman: This has the same meaning as exercise. It means to do physical exercise in order to keep your body fit. Listen to this:
Woman: You’ve lost weight. Have you been working out?
Man: Yes, I joined a gym. I work out for half an hour after work every day now.
Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog
