Hi Mario,I think that it's not a bad mistake, but the past tense (eat),about verb (to eat),is an arcaic form, not much used.

What do you think about this?

    -correct me please.

  • 9. filippo88 - mercoledì 18 ottobre 2006 20:29:42

I'm sorry, but I think that "ate" isn't arcaic at all! last year I went to England.. They always use "ate", never "eat" for the past tenses..

  • 27. stefano Malfitano - venerdì 20 ottobre 2006 18:30:31

I think all of you have made a mistake, let's see and explain it.
the particel "-en" that you usually add at the end of past participle it a heire of the old German "-ven"; they used to add this suffix in Hamburg in 19th century. When lots of people moved to America, not only people created the famuos "melting pot" society but even the languages mixed toghether and it explains why in America you'll always hear "forgott-en, awok-en, becom-en" etc.

So, if you guess you are talking with an American Person, you have to use -en if you are just talking with an european you mustn't use that suffix.

You alway have to find out who are you talking with!
    Ad maiora, steve

    @ stefano Malfitano

Are you sure? When I went to Chester last year I talked with American, English, Australian, Indian (and so on..) people.. Neither English nor American said "awoken" or "becomen".. They always used "awoke" and "become"..

    @ stefano malfitano

    learn-lernt(learned)-lernt(learned)=imparare
There are some verbs with both forms, regular and irregoular. This is one of them, do you know anyone else ?

  • 33. AndreaS - lunedì 23 ottobre 2006 15:39:44

Excuse me.I made two mistakes : the irregular form is learnt not "lernt" and the correct form of the word irregoular is without the "u", of course.

  • 34. mario - martedì 24 ottobre 2006 11:09:05

    @ AndreaS

….irregular is without "o" of course
