Nella lezione di oggi troverai il lessico da utilizzare per acquistare dei farmaci.
Chemist’s: a place where medicines are sold. In Britain, a chemist’s shop also sells toiletries and cosmetics.
Prescription: a written statement from a doctor requesting medicines for a patient.
Medication: a substance used to treat illness.
Drug: general word for “medication”.
Drugs sold over the counter: drugs for which a medical prescription is not necessary.
Painkiller: medication that you take to stop physical suffering (e.g. a headache).
Plaster (USA: Band-Aid): a small strip of sticky material which you use to protect cuts on your body.
Gauze: a strip of soft cloth that you use to cover a graze on your body.
Paracetamol: a bland drug you take to relieve pain and fever.
Antacid: a substance that helps you relieve stomachache.
Tablet/pill: a small round drug which is meant to be taken with some water.
Cough mixture: a syrup that you take to relieve cough and a sore throat.
