Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some English words that often confuse people.
Before starting, let me first explain that you’ll be listening to some useful English words followed by an explanation and an example of how they are used.
So let’s start!
Woman: A prescription.
Man: A prescription is a piece of paper where a doctor has written the name of the medicine that you need. You take the prescription to a chemist’s and get the medicine there. Listen to this example:
Woman: Hello, how can I help you?
Man: I’d like this prescription please.
Woman: Ok, let me see if we have the medicine in stock.
Woman: Yes, here you are.
Man: Thank you.
Woman: A recipe
Man: A recipe is the instructions for cooking or preparing something to eat.
For example:
Woman: I’ve lost my recipe book, and I don’t know how to make that chocolate cake you love without it.
Man: Try the bottom drawer.
Woman: Here it is, now where is that recipe….?
Woman: A receipt.
Man: A receipt is a piece of paper that shows you have paid for something.
Listen to this short conversation:
Woman: That will be £7.99 please.
Man: Thank you.
Woman: And here’s your receipt.
Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog.
