Ospedale - Vocabolario
In questa lezione viene presentato il lessico legato ai problemi di salute.
To be ill: if you’re ill, you don’t feel very well.
To be sick: if you are sick, can also mean that you feel ill, but it can also mean that you need to vomit.
Medication: a substance used to treat illness.
Drug: general word for “medication”.
Painkiller: medication that you take to stop physical suffering.
Paracetamol: a bland drug you take to relieve pain and fever.
Drugs sold over the counter: drugs you can buy without a medical prescription.
To be admitted to hospital: to be kept in a hospital to undergo treatment.
To be discharged from hospital: to leave the hospital after completing treatment.
Surgeon: a doctor who cuts the patient’s body to treat his/her illness.
General Practitioner (GP): a doctor who has no particular specialisation, that treats all types of illnesses and works in the local community, not in a hospital.
Casualty/emergency room: the area of a hospital where people are taken for emergency treatment.
Medical record: a detailed written report of the patient’s condition.
Get well soon: you say that to somebody who is ill (“I hope you’ll be well soon”).
