Turista - Vocabolario - Trascrizione
Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some interesting survival English vocabulary to help you if you are a tourist in an English speaking country.
Before starting, let me first explain that you’ll be listening to some useful English vocabulary, followed by an explanation and an example of how it is used.
So let’s start!
Woman: A Shopping Centre.
Man: A shopping centre is a place where there are many shops either outside or in a covered building.
Listen to this example:
Woman: I can’t believe how big this shopping centre is, I hope we don’t get lost.
Man: Look there’s an information point, let’s see if they have a map.
Woman: How can I help you?
Man: Do you have any maps please?
Woman: Sure, here you are.
Man: Thank you.
Woman: A Department Store.
Man: A Department store is a large shop divided into sections selling different types of goods.
For example:
Woman: This shop is gigantic, look at the size of the perfume section.
Man: I thought we came here to get me some trousers.
Woman: We did, look the men’s clothing section is over there.
Woman: A Travel Agency.
Man: A travel agency is a company that makes travel arrangements for people, such as booking a holiday, tickets, flights, hotels etc. In London you can often buy tickets for the different attractions there.
Listen to this short conversation:
Woman: Hello, how can I help you?
Man: I’d like to book two tickets for the London Eye please.
Woman: When would you like to go on it?
Man: Tomorrow afternoon please.
Woman: Yes we have tickets available for then. How would you like to pay?
Man: By credit card please.
Woman: A Newsagent’s.
Man: A Newsagent’s is a shop where newspapers and magazines are sold, alongside with sweets, chocolates and cold drinks etc.
Listen to this:
Woman: I’ve finished my cigarettes, where can I buy some more?
Man: We have to find a shop that sells newspapers, or a supermarket. Look there’s a newsagent’s across the road, I might be able to buy an Italian newspaper also.
Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog
