Ristorante - Vocabolario - Trascrizione

FLICKR - #58499153_e0c220ec61 Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some interesting survival English on restaurants.
Before starting, let me first explain that you’ll be listening to some useful English vocabulary, followed by an explanation and an example of their uses.
So let’s start!

Woman: A waiter or a waitress.
Man: A waiter is a man whose job is to serve customers at their tables in a restaurant. A waitress is a woman who does the same job. Listen to this example:
Woman: This restaurant’s a bit slow isn’t it. We’ve been here, half an hour, and nobody has taken our order yet.
Man: I don’t think they have enough waiters on.
Woman: Look! There’s a waitress coming in our direction now. See if you can get her attention.
Man: Excuse me! Excuse me!
Woman: Hello, sorry for the delay, are you ready to order?
Man: Yes, please.

Woman: A tip.
Man: A tip is a small amount of extra money that you give a waiter or waitress to thank them for the service.
For example:
Woman: How much should we tip the waiter?
Man: Well, I normally leave 15% of what the bill comes to.
Woman: Let me see how much change I have then.

Woman: A starter
Man: Is a small amount of food that you eat before your main course.
Listen to this short conversation:
Woman: The starters all look good, I can’t decide what I’m going to have.
Man: I can’t decide between a prawn cocktail, or tomato soup.

Woman: A main course.
Man: In England, a menu consists of a starter, a main course and then dessert. The main course is the largest course of the meal, such as meat, fish, chicken etc. that is served with vegetables.
Listen to this:
Woman: I think I’m going to have duck for my main course.
Man: Really? I think I’ll have a steak.

Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog
