Ristorante - Lessico - Trascrizione
Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some interesting English words that can often be confused.
Before starting, let me first explain that you’ll be listening to some useful English words, followed by an explanation and an example of how they are used.
So let’s start!
Woman: Café
Man: A café is a small restaurant that serves drinks and light meals.
Listen to this example:
Woman: Where shall we go for lunch?
Man: Let’s go to Joe’s café around the corner, they make great sandwiches there.
Woman: That’s a good idea. I’ll just get my bag.
Woman: Cafeteria
Man: A cafeteria is a restaurant, especially one for staff, workers or students, where people collect their meals themselves and carry them to their tables.
For example:
Woman: Shall I get us a table, while you collect the food?
Man: That’s a good idea. The cafeteria is getting very busy. What would you like?
Woman: A tuna salad please, and a small bottle of water.
Woman: Coffee
Man: Coffee is the cooked seeds of a tropical tree, made into powder and used for making a hot drink.
Listen to this short conversation:
Woman: Mmm. I love the smell of fresh coffee.
Man: Well this bar certainly does the best espresso.
Woman: A cafetière.
Man: A cafetière is a special glass container for making coffee with a metal part that you push down.
Listen to this:
Woman: Before I leave Italy, I must buy one of these coffee machines, they make coffee much better than my old cafetière.
Man: Make sure you buy the right coffee for the machine as well, it’s different to the coffee you buy in England.
Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog.
