Ristorante - Grammatica - Trascrizione

FLICKR - #58499153_e0c220ec61 Hello everybody! Welcome to the EnglishBlog. In this podcast, you’ll be learning some interesting survival English on the different English meanings the Italian verb “portare” has.
Before starting, let me first explain that the lesson is divided into two parts:
PART ONE: you’ll be learning some essential verb meanings.
PART TWO: you’ll be listening to some useful sentences using these verbs.
So let’s start!

Woman: Do you know the different meanings of the verb “portare”? Listen and learn.
Woman: To “take” in this definition means to carry or move something or somebody. It is an irregular verb, and its past ending is “took.”
Now listen to these examples:
Man: I’m taking my wife to a nice restaurant.
Man: Can you take this fish to table 5 please?
Man: We’ll take a taxi to the restaurant.

Woman: “To Bring” in this definition means to carry or take something or somebody to a place with you. It is an irregular verb, and its past ending is “brought”.
For example:
Man: Can you bring me the bill please?
Woman: Certainly.
Woman: Listen to another example:
Woman: Don’t forget to bring your wallet to the restaurant.
Man: I won’t, I only did that once, we were lucky you had your credit card on you.

Woman: “To Carry” in this definition means to hold something or somebody in your hands, arms, or on your back while you are moving from one place to another. It is a regular verb.
For example:
Man: Can you help me carry these plates to table 10 please?
Woman: Of course, it’s really busy in the restaurant tonight isn’t it?
Woman: “To Wear” in this definition means to have clothes, jewellery etc. on your body. It is an irregular verb, and its past ending is “wore”.
For example:
Man: What colour dress are you wearing to the restaurant tonight?
Woman: Pink. Why?
Man: I have to make sure that I’m wearing a matching tie.

Woman: Now let’s listen to these verbs in the dialogue: pay attention to how they are used.
Woman: Hello, can I take your order please?
Man: Yes, please. We’d like Nachos for two as a starter, then Tacos for the main course.
Woman: Would you like any wine?
Man: Yes, can you bring us a bottle of Merlot please with the main course?
Woman: Can I bring you any drinks while you are waiting for the meal?
Man: Mmm, 2 small Margheritas please.
Woman: It’s nice here, but, I wish you weren’t wearing a white shirt.
Man: Why?
Woman: Because you always spill things on you, especially when you are eating Nachos.
Man: I’ll try to be careful.
Woman: I should have asked the waitress to bring you a bib.
Woman: Can you take these drinks to table 23 please?
Man: Sure, let me just get a tray to carry them on.
Woman: Hurry up their Nachos is almost ready.
Man: Here are your cocktails.
Woman: Thank you.

Woman: If you wish you can hear this lesson again. In the meantime we hope we have helped you to be more confident with your English. Watch out for the next topic. Thank you for using the EnglishBlog.
